Dr. Lorenzo Guess is the Assistant AD/Athletic Performance for Michigan State University Athletics. He is also beginning his third year as the Men's Basketball Head Strength & Conditioning and Director of Player Enrichment at Michigan State University. Before that, he served as the Associate Head Strength and Conditioning Coach & Director of Player Enrichment for football at Michigan State University.
Guess has extensive experience in strength and conditioning at the collegiate level, with 19 years of experience at institutions like Notre Dame, Cincinnati, South Florida, and Alcorn State. He even coached Super Bowl Champion Travis Kelce at Cincinnati as a tight ends coach. He is a certified Strength and Conditioning Coach (SCCC) and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). In 2020, he was named a "Master Strength and Conditioning Coach (MSCC)," which is the highest honor in the field.
Guess has been a part of a few championships in his career. As a student-athlete, he was part of two Big Ten Championships in basketball. As a professional, he was a part of a Big East Championship with the University of Cincinnati in football as the Tight Ends Coach. Two Big Ten Championships, a Final Four appearance, and multiple New Year's Six Bowl game victories. Recently, the 2025 Big Ten Championship for Men's basketball and an Elite Eight appearance.
Dr. Guess is a Michigan State alumnus, having earned a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary social science in 2002. He also holds a master's degree in business administration from Tiffin University (2007) and a doctoral degree in education from the United States Sports Academy (2021). His doctoral research focused on "The Perception of Educational Barriers in Transition of African American Male Student-Athletes".
Guess was a two-sport athlete at Michigan State, a four-year letterman in football (safety) and a two-year letterman in basketball (guard). He was part of two Big Ten Championship basketball teams and an NCAA Final Four appearance in 1999.
