Dr. Amber Selking

As a former soccer player at the University of Notre Dame where she graduated with a Management Consulting degree, Dr. Selking started her career in human resources with a global manufacturing company. After recognizing a similar performance dynamic in business as she experienced in sport, she returned to graduate school to better understand the art and science of human high performance. She received a master’s degree in Sport & Performance Psychology from the University of Denver, and her PhD in Applied Sport & Performance Psychology from the University of Missouri under Dr. Rick McGuire.

“In seasons of adversity, we have to understand that failure’s going to come. It’s going to be difficult.”

“If you want to be a champion then you invariably have to do things differently than average people.”

“Just like we train our bodies physically, we can train our minds mentally.”

“Our thoughts affect our emotions which affect our physiological response which ultimately dictates our performance.”

“If we learn to choose the right thoughts at the right time to set that process up for success. It increases our probability of getting what we want out of the moment.”

“Every time you repeat a thought, what fires together – wires together. You are literally wiring your brain based on how you think.”

Dr. Selking founded the Selking Performance Group, where their mission is to help individuals, sports teams, and business organizations unleash performance excellence by tapping into the power of Mindset and Leadership. She speaks with organizations around the world on these topics, and served as the mental performance consultant to the Notre Dame Football team during the winningest five-year stint in program history. She has also served as an adjunct professor in the Mendoza College of Business at ND. Amber joined Lippert Components, Inc. in 2018, a publicly-traded, global manufacturing company headquartered in Elkhart, IN where she serves as the Vice President of Leadership & Culture Development, and helps bring to life their vision of making business a force for good in the world.

From the LockerRoom to the BoardRoom, Dr. Selking takes a top-down, bottom-up, and culturally relevant approach to high performance. Her expertise is in optimizing human performance by partnering with leaders to build systems that are most conducive to high performance, teaching people about how their brain works, and providing strategies to build mindsets that facilitate success. Dr. Selking also hosts a popular podcast called “Building Championship Mindsets,” which has been utilized around the world, including Johannesburg, South Africa to build productive mindsets in their young people. In 2020, she was recognized as one of Michiana’s “40 under 40,” which shines the spotlight on 40 of the region’s most talented and dedicated young executives, professionals, and leaders who demonstrate career success and community engagement, before the age of 40.

Dr. Selking’s 2022 book, “Winning the Mental Game: The Playbook for Building Championship Mindsets” documents her widely-applied foundational mental performance training program weaving together science, client stories, and mindset training for a highly interactive and applicable read.

Amber grew up raising livestock in a small town in northeastern Pennsylvania, and now lives in South Bend, IN with her husband, Aaron, and their Doberman Pinscher, Rockne.
